What are the difference between PERT and GANTT Chart

PERT and GANTT are project management tools used to visualize different tasks or activities associated with a project. Both the chart techniques serves the purpose of scheduling, controlling and administering the tasks associated in a project.

A quick understanding on the major difference between PERT and GANTT chart are explained using the table below. 

GANTT CHART	PERT CHART
First developed and introduced by Charles Gantt 1917	First developed and introduced by US Navy in 1950
Each activity of the project is represented as a bar in the GANTT chart or Bar Charts	Each task associated with the project is represented as flowcharts in boxes or Network diagrams
The position, length of the bar is a representation of start, end and duration of the activity. The relationship between each activity is represented by an arrow. A triangle is used to represent the milestone.	Each box represents each task. Each task shows the task name and the three-time estimates, optimistic, pessimistic and most likely time estimate. Arrows are used to represent interdependencies of each task.
Employed for small projects	Used for large and complex projects
Time duration and percentage completion have accurate values	The time and completion time are decided based on prediction or past forecasting.
Interconnection of task, to show dependency is not possible in GANTT charts	PERT employs numerous ways to interconnect the task to show their dependency.
