Carbon Steel Rebars or Black Rebar for R.C.C Construction

Carbon steel rebars are made of carbon steel and are commonly called as black bar, due to its carbon color. It contains 0.05 to 1.7 % carbon by weight.  The tensile strength ratio the carbon steel offer is the main reason why it is made the best choice. The only issue with carbon steel bars is that, they corrodes easily.

Black bars are hence uncoated rebars that provide superior performance for applications where there is no moisture. It is the cheapest and best options for application where epoxy and anti-rust coated rebars are not needed.

ASTM Standard Codes for Carbon Steel Bars

ASTM-A615: Standard Specification for Deformed and Plain Carbon-Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement is the code for carbon steel bars or blacks bars. The code covers four grades, Grade 40, 60, 75, and 80.

ASTM A615 bars are commonly used in low-stress and less-demanding applications. It is economical in situations where a tremendous level of tensile strength is not necessary. The strength of black bars are dependent on the grade and they are available in various standard sizes.

Carbon steel rebars can be used as primary and secondary reinforcement. It can be customized with epoxies and special coating to use it for specific purposes.

Cost of Carbon Steel Rebars

The cost of carbon steel bars is generally in the range of US $ 550-755 / Ton. The cost varies with the diameter, the length of the rod, and the number of quantities that is ordered.
